Amazon.com Universal Wishlist for April V Watkins.
As many of you know I teach at a relatively small middle school in Kentucky. I am an 7th grade reading teacher. As we approach the spring semester of my students’ 7th grade year I’d like to begin reading more books with my students.
The problem: the book sets in our library are ancient and with recent cuts in funding it’s difficult to find the money to purchase new ones. I’m very limited in the rich literary experience I can and wish to offer my kids this spring. I posted asking what might be the best way to fund classroom sets yesterday and received very helpful responses. I plan on creating a Donor’s Choose page this upcoming week, after receiving permission to use student photos there. That will be an ongoing outlet for donations throughout the next several months and I will share that link as well at a later date.
In the meantime many of you indicated you could help out through a public Amazon wishlist. I am so appreciative of this Tumblr community and all that you’ve done to support me. If you find it in yourself to purchase a few books for my students I would be grateful. In total I’m looking to have 6 new sets of 32 books each for my classroom. I will share these resources with my fellow language arts and special education teachers as well. The books will remain at our school as a donation from you that helps to enrich the literacy of our students.
I have posted three requests so far on my classroom wishlist. I’d like to have 32 each of The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt, When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead, and Wonder by RJ Palacio. With your help we could make this happen and I can promise my students will be forever grateful. (They’ll think it’s way cool that the internet bought them books.)
